Charlton County Community Comes Together for MLK Jr. Day Celebration
Residents of Charlton County gathered on Monday, January 19th, to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the annual MLK Jr. Day celebration presented by the Unified Alliance of Charlton County. Centered on the theme “Together We Dream, Together We Do,” the event emphasized unity, service, and shared responsibility within the community. The day began with an MLK Jr. Day Parade at 11 a.m., which traveled from the DFACS building to the Charlton County Courthouse. Community members lined the parade route as local organizations, churches, and civic groups participated in the procession, celebrating Dr. King’s vision of equality, justice, and hope.
Following the parade, attendees gathered at Mt. New Home Missionary Baptist Church for the official program at noon. The program featured reflections, music, and messages highlighting Dr. King’s enduring influence and the continued relevance of his dream in today’s society. The featured speaker for the program was Monique Smith, who delivered a message encouraging community engagement and action. Her remarks focused on transforming shared dreams into meaningful work that strengthens families, neighborhoods, and the broader Charlton County community. Organizers with the Unified Alliance of Charlton County expressed appreciation for the strong turnout and community support. They noted that the event served not only as a tribute to Dr. King’s legacy but also as a reminder of the importance of collaboration and service throughout the year. T
The 2026 MLK Jr. Day celebration concluded with a renewed sense of unity, as participants reflected on Dr. King’s message and recommitted themselves to working together to build a stronger, more inclusive community.
