The Charlton County Indians will open the first round of the GHSA state playoffs this Friday night at Macon County. Kickoff is set for 7:30 in Montezuma.
The Charlton County basketball teams had a scrimmage last Friday night against Glynn Academy. Both teams were defeated but it gave the coaches a good idea of what needs to be worked on before the regular season opens on November 18.
Former Maiden basketball star Courtney Williams will once again be playing in the unrivaled 3×3 league this offseason. In the most recent draft Williams was chosen to play for the Vinyl after last year suiting up for the Lunar Owls.
Former Indian Elyiss Williams caught a twenty four yard pass to set up a touchdown in Georgia’s 41-21 win over Mississippi State. Williams continues to receive playing time as a true freshman. Georgia gained over 500 yards of offense as they improved to 8-1 on the year. A big game this Saturday against Texas will help determine playoff positions.
Only one team in the top ten of college football lost last weekend and it really wasn’t an upset as seventh ranked BYU lost to eighth ranked Texas Tech. Two teams narrowly avoided defeat as second ranked Indiana needed a last minute touchdown to defeat Penn State while ninth ranked Oregon kicked a last second field goal to knock off Iowa.
Meanwhile the Florida Gators continue to struggle losing 38-7 to Kentucky. The Gators fell to 3-6 on the season as they committed four turnovers in the game.
The Atlanta Braves named bench coach Walt Weiss as their new manager for the 2026 season. Weiss played for the Braves from 1998-2000 and returned as a coach beginning in 2018
The Jacksonville Jaguars entered the fourth quarter with a comfortable 29-10 lead over the Houston Texans. The they fell apart allowing the Texans to score twenty six unanswered points in the final quarter and win 36-29.
Earlier in the week it was announced that the Jaguars plan to play the 2027 season at Camping World Stadium in Orlando while Everbank Stadium is being remodeled. This is pending approval from the NFL owners.
The Atlanta Falcons continue to struggle as they lost 31-25 in overtime to the Indianapolis Colts in a game played in Berlin, Germany.
As college basketball season got underway third ranked Florida lost to Arizona while fifth ranked St. John’s lost to Alabama. In women’s hoops seventh ranked Duke lost to Baylore and eighth ranked Tennessee fell to ninth ranked North Carolina State.
In the NBA the Atlanta Hawks evened their record at 5-5 after beating the Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Lakers and losing to the Toronto Raptors.
Early on the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder have started out with a league best 9-1 record. Behind them are the San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets and Detroit Pistons all at 7-2.Sports
