For the second week in a row congratulations to Kimbree Gowen for winning the Georgia recreation and Parks Association fifteen-under girls state championship last week. Also Nolan Lambert placed second in the fifteen-under boys tournament despite only being twelve years old.
The countdown to Indian and Maiden sports is getting shorter and shorter. The Maidens softball team will open up their season against Brantley County on July 30 while the Indian football team will play Berrien in a preseason scrimmage on August 1.
The Indians football team will be hosting “The Little Indian Football Camp” on Saturday, July 26. The camp is open for boys ages 5-13.
Courtney Williams and the Minnesota Lynx avenged a few of their recent losses last week beating the Chicago Sky and Phoenix Mercury. Williams scored thirty points in the two games along with grabbing fifteen rebounds and dishing out twelve assists.
From there Williams headed to Indianapolis to compete in the WNBA Skills Challenge on Friday at All Star Weekend. On Saturday she scored thirteen points in helping Team Collier defeat Team Clark 151-131 in the All Star Game.
Major League Baseball held their All Star Classic in Atlanta. On Monday Cal Raleigh won the Home Run Derby and on Tuesday the National League let a six run lead slip away before winning in the first ever “Swing Off” in which three players from each team got three swings to hit as many home runs as possible.
After the break the Atlanta Braves returned home to face the New York Yankees in a three game series. The Braves would win the opener before dropping the final two games.
The Jacksonville Sharks fell to 9-6 after dropping their second game in a row after losing to the Tulsa Oilers 47-38. Despite the loss the Sharks clinched a playoff spot with one regular season game remaining at home Saturday against the Green Bay Blizzard.
SEC Media days were held last week and the media has chosen Texas to be the favorite to win the conference with Georgia right behind them.
At the British Open held in Northern Ireland top ranked Scottie Scheffler cruised to a four stroke win to win his first title across the pond. It was his second major won this season and fourth overall.
The NASCAR Cup Series was held the Dover Motor Speedway and Denny Hamlin held off Chase Briscoe in overtime to claim his fourth win of the season.
