Congratulations to Maidens tennis player Jerea Timmon for signing a letter of intent to continue her athletic career at Piedmont University.
The Charlton County baseball team defeated Echols County and Irwin County but fell to Lanier County. The loss drops the Indians to second place in the Region 2-A standings for now.
The Charlton County tracks teams faced some top quality competition last week at Glynn Academy. Both teams put up good efforts, and the competition will help them down the road when they enter the Region 2-A Region Meet and beyond.
Ian Vickers continues to pitch well for Thomas University. He picked up his fourth win of the year allowing just two runs in six innings while striking out eight batters.
The men’s Final Four is set in the NCAA Basketball Tournament. Two of the top four seeds advanced with Florida and Duke losing. Arizona will face Michigan in one semifinal while Connecticut and Illinois battle on the other side of the bracket.
In women’s hoops half of the Final Four was set through Sunday with the other two semifinalists being determined on Monday. Connecticut will face the South Carolina/TCU winner while UCLA takes on the Texas/Michigan winner.
The Atlanta Braves got their season off to a good start winning two of three games from the Kansas City Royals.
With seven games remaining in the regular season the Atlanta Hawks are holding on to a half game lead over the Philadelphia 76er’s for the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference. A sixth spot guarantees them a playoff berth while anything below that forces them into the Play In Tournament with seeds 7-10.
At the NASCAR Cup race from the Martinsville Speedway Chase Elliott held off Denny Hamlin to claim his first win of the season and the twenty second of his career.
At the Houston Open Gary Woodland cruised to a five-stroke win over Nicolai Hojgaard for his first win since 2019.
