WHEREAS, Glenn Hughes was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised in his beloved hometown of Albany, Georgia, where the foundation of his lifelong passion for education, athletics, and community involvement was established; and
WHEREAS, Glenn pursued higher education at the University of Georgia, graduating in 1986 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, dedicating himself to the development of young people through physical education and coaching; and
WHEREAS, after graduation, Glenn began his professional career in the Waycross, Georgia school system during a time of great transition, as the Ware and Waycross school systems prepared to merge into a single unified district; and
WHEREAS, two years later, Glenn followed his close friend Mike Baxter to Charlton County, where he continued his teaching career as a middle school Physical Education teacher and coach, making a lasting impact on students and athletes alike; and
WHEREAS, in May of 1993, Glenn began his career with the Charlton County Parks and Recreation Department, where he has faithfully served for over 30 years, enriching the lives of youth and families through the development of meaningful recreational programs, events, and athletic opportunities; and
WHEREAS, Glenn Hughes has proudly called Charlton County home for the past 37 years and has also served as the longtime sports writer for the Charlton County Herald, preserving and highlighting local athletic achievements and creating a lasting legacy through storytelling and journalism; and
WHEREAS, Glenn has been honored by the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) for 30 years of outstanding service, a testament to his professionalism, leadership, and steadfast dedication to improving the quality of life for others; and
WHEREAS, Glenn Hughes is well known and deeply respected for his love of all sports, his passion for travel, and his unwavering commitment to the people of Charlton County;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Charlton County Board of Commissioners does hereby extend its sincere appreciation and admiration to Glenn Hughes for his decades of exemplary service, commitment to public recreation, and unwavering dedication to the people and communities of Charlton
County.
BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED, that we congratulate Glenn on his well-deserved retirement and wish him continued happiness, good health, and memorable adventures in the years ahead.
