The Gibson –
Readers may remember the history of The Gibson Homestead featured in our March 18 edition. Now, that treasured piece of Charlton County history has officially entered a new chapter.
The Gibson Homestead celebrated its grand opening on March 29 as a vacation rental property, welcoming many members of the community to tour the home, visit with friends and family, and enjoy refreshments.
Located at 385 Gibson Post Road, the historic home has been lovingly preserved by Glenda Gibson, who grew up there with her family and wanted to keep the property in Gibson hands while also sharing it with others.
The homestead features five bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and sits on nine peaceful acres, offering guests a quiet country retreat. The home is warm and inviting, with a fire pit area in the backyard that adds to its charm and appeal.
With very little traffic along the road, the property provides a relaxing setting for visitors looking to enjoy the beauty and slower pace of rural Charlton County. Its location also makes it a convenient place to stay for those visiting the Okefenokee Swamp or the Folkston Funnel.
Once known as a gathering place for family, friends and neighbors, the Gibson Homestead is now ready to welcome a new generation of guests while continuing its long tradition of hospitality.
Reservations are available on VRBO.

Community members in Folkston gathered on March 27 to celebrate the grand opening of Centered Pilates, marking a new and exciting addition to the local wellness community. The event welcomed guests for a morning of fitness, fun, and connection. Attendees toured the new facility, met owner Janet Lewis, and gained a deeper understanding of the studio’s focus on core strength, sculpting, and overall wellness. The grand opening featured activities for all ages, with guests enjoying finger foods and cake while participating in games and entering giveaways. Its motto, “Core. Sculpt. Burn.,” reflects a commitment to helping clients achieve balanced, full-body wellness. The event also allowed community members to connect with Lewis and experience the benefits of Pilates firsthand. With its modern space and personalized approach, the studio is poised to become a hub for health and wellness in the Folkston area. When asked about her inspiration, Lewis said she wanted to create “a space just for a women’s community where we can lift each other and encourage one another.” Lewis added that her favorite part of Centered Pilates is “being able to see many different faces at the studio all the time.” For Lewis, the ribbon-cutting was more than a business milestone—it was a calling. She said her passion to “uplift and encourage” other women is what she believes she was meant to do.
