Temporary Burn Ban Issued in Charlton County
The Charlton County Board of Commissioners has officially adopted a temporary burn ban for all unincorporated areas of the county, effective February 22, 2026.
Due to dry weather conditions, drought, and increased fire risk, all forms of outdoor open burning are prohibited at this time. This includes but NOT limited to:
• Yard debris
• Land clearing debris
• Burning in fields or ditches
• Any other outdoor burning that could lead to the spread of fire
The ban will remain in effect until conditions improve and county officials determine it is safe to resume open burning.
The resolution will be enforced by Charlton County Fire/Rescue, the Sheriff’s Office, and other authorized agencies. Violations may result in penalties under county ordinance and applicable law.
The purpose of this burn ban is to reduce the risk of wildfires, protect emergency responders, and safeguard the lives and property of Charlton County residents.
