The Cherokee of Georgia hosted their 45th Annual Fall Powwow this past weekend, a three-day celebration of culture, community and tradition. The event offered something for everyone — from vibrant dancing and powerful storytelling to delicious food, arts and crafts, and a wide variety of vendors.
A flag-folding ceremony was held as a solemn ceremonial observance during the powwow, part of the event’s program of traditional and symbolic rituals. Separately, veterans, active-duty military and first responders were formally recognized and
honored in their own dedicated segment of the weekend’s activities.
Throughout the powwow grounds, the beat of the drums and the sight of colorful regalia drew visitors of all ages. Storytellers shared history and memory, while artisans displayed handmade
beadwork, carvings and other crafts. Delicious food was served- including the fry bread (a long time favorite of all guests).
Now in its 45th year, the Cherokee of Georgia Fall Powwow continues to preserve and share Native American traditions while bringing the wider community together in celebration and gratitude. This year’s gathering was a heartfelt reminder of heritage, honor and the bonds that tie the community together.
