James Lloyd Thompson, 87, of Folkston, GA passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025. He was born in Sumter County, SC, to the late Lloyd Henry Thompson and Blanche Newman. James proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 23 years. After the Air Force, James worked at Anheuser Busch for 20 years, Nassau County Sheriff’s Office as a crossing guard for 17 years, and Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home for 23 years. He was also a Mason for 33 years and an Eastern Star for 20 years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter: Donna Thompson; 3-brothers: Raymond Thompson, Dickie Stewart and T.C. Stewart; and
2-sisters: Lil Brown and Betty Resser.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years: Wannell Thompson; his children: Patricia Phillips Captain (Kim), David Thompson (Julie), Brian Thompson, Nancy Kale (George), Dale Clark (Arlinda) and Melissa Godbold (Gene); 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Boulougne with Bro. Paul Lucas and Bro. Sonny Foraker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at 2:00 PM at Jacksonville National Cemetery with Military Honors. Pallbearers will be James Hobbs, Adam Dyal, Mickey Henderson, Al Owen, David Manning, Charlie Hahn, Bob Howard, and Dave Gerwatosky.
