Mizell – Thomas Raymond Mizell, Sr., age 87, of St. George, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Ed Fraser Memorial Hospital in Macclenny, FL. Raymond was born in Folkston, GA on October13, 1938, to the late Lonnie A. Mizell and Aggie Nettles Mizell. He was raised in Folkston and was a dedicated worker from a young age. He started out as a newspaper delivery boy, working in the local tobacco fields, and later serving with Veterans Cleaning Services. Following his school years, Raymond met the love of his life, Emma Louise Hartsfield. The two were wed on August 29, 1958, and began a beautiful journey together. After a brief time living in Jacksonville, Florida, they settled in St. George, Georgia in1969. Raymond proudly called this amazing community home for the rest of his life. Raymond’s true professional passion was found on the open road. He enjoyed a long, successful career as a truck driver with Alterman Transport, known as a tireless provider who always put his family’s needs first. Outside of work,Raymond loved the simple pleasures of life. He could often be found casting a line while fishing, working outdoors, or tinkering on cars in the yard. Above all, he loved his faith and community, serving as a longtime member of New Life Baptist Church. Following the passing of his beloved wife Emma, Raymond was blessed to find love and companionship once again. In November of 2019, he married Lois Ann Hester. For six wonderful years, they were inseparable best friends and deeply devoted to each other, playfully calling themselves ‘Antique Teenagers’. Raymond will be remembered as a hardworking, faithful, and loving family man whose legacy of devotion will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 59 years, Emma Louise Mizell; sons, T.R. Mizell, Jr. andClyde “Bo” Mizell; brothers, Frank Brown, Amos Mizell, Jake Mizell, and Clyde Mizell; and sisters-in-law,Joyce Brown, Louise Brown, and June Mizell.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Lois Hester Mizell of St. George, GA; daughter, Judy (George) Denton ofSt. George, GA; daughter-in-law, Bridgett Mizell; step-children, Nick (Autumn) Taylor of Glen St. Mary,FL, Steve (Corinne) Taylor of Macclenny, FL, John William (Jeryl) Taylor of Sanderson, FL; brother, RogerBrown; sister-in-law, Priscella Mizell; grandchildren, Shannon (Brad) Martens, Robyn (Kyle) Hamlin,Sarah (Jacob) Sheffield, Amy Sweat, Kris Combs, Chase Combs, Shayne (Jessica) Mizell, Stacy Rhoden, Jennifer Rhoden, Heather Croker, and Sabrina (Stephen) Butler; step-grandchildren, John, Jacob, Nate,Noah, and Nicholas Taylor; along with many great grandchildren, extended family and cherished friends.
A Celebration of Raymond’s Life was held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 11:00 am at New Life BaptistChurch, 1058 Wheeler Street, St. George, GA 31562 with Pastor Forrest Elledge officiating. Interment followed at St. George Cemetery in St. George, Georgia. Raymonds family received friends on Monday, June 8, 2026, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the church.
