Lorys Lee Henderson-Moody (6/1/2025)
Ms. Lorys Lee Henderson-Moody was born on January 01, 1938 to the late, Willie J. Henderson and Lucille Murray in Woodbine, Ga. (Silco, Ga.) and was reared by Clyde and Gussie Murray along side of her step mother, Odessa Henderson. Ms. Lorys was educated in the public school system of Ralph J. Bunche High School from which she graduated. She was committed to serving the Lord at an early age as she was raised and she continued that tradition of raising a child to respect the Lord as she was taught. She grew up as a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church located in the Greenville Community.
Ms. Lorys work history included being employed with the nursing home and at Slash Pine Community Agency but the majority of her employment history was spent at Thiokol Chemical Plant in Woodbine, GA where she spent many years before finally retiring. Even after retiring she never rested on her laurels, she was a former member of the Eastern Star 104 Widow Son Lodge and Golden Circle where she served as the Worthy Matron.
Ms. Lorys was very active in her children lives, participating in their sporting events cheering them on and serving as chaperons on band trips. One could easily consider her to an avid sports fan. Other than being a God fearing child, wife and mother, she will forever be remembered for her delicious Red Velvet and Pound Cakes and her famous Turkey Wings and Yellow Rice. In her spare time she enjoyed watching sports and her Westerns. Her hobbies included cooking and sewing. Ms. Lorys was a pillar in our community. There aren’t many churches that she hasn’t served as the Mistress of Ceremony or Songtress on their programs. She had a beautiful voice and rarely needed a mic.
Ms. Lorys passed away on Monday, June 01, 2026 at her residence following a lengthy illness surrounded by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by both parents, Willie J. Henderson and Lucille Murray; her bonus parents, Clyde and Gussie Murray and Odessa Henderson; her husband, C.I. “Billy Boy” Moody, Sr.; her sister, Dollie Mae Wright and a brother, Eddie Dean “Prince” Taylor.
