Community members and local officials gathered 0n April 16 for a special Board of Commissioners meeting marking the dedication and grand opening of the new Georgia Bend Fire Station.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome and introduction from Interim County Administrator Becky Harden, followed by remarks from County Commissioner Alphya Benefield, who expressed appreciation for the dedication and service of first responders throughout the county. Chaplain Jimmy Knight delivered the blessing of the station, while Fire Chief C.L. Lewis offered acknowledgements recognizing those who contributed to the project. The Brantley County ROTC Honor Guard presented the colors, adding a formal touch to the occasion.
A highlight of the event was a dedication recognizing County Commissioner Jesse Crews for his years of service and contributions to the county. Benefield and County Commissioner Luke Gowen spoke in honor of Crews, acknowledging his nearly eight terms as a commissioner and his many accomplishments. A plaque was presented to him by Gary Tippins and Chuck Edwards (the contractors of the building) in recognition of his commitment and impact.
Crews addressed the crowd, thanking attendees for their support and reflecting on his time serving the community. He shared stories from his years of involvement and expressed gratitude to those who have worked alongside him.
Following the ceremony, guests were invited to enjoy light refreshments and tour the new facility. The fire station features multiple rooms, including a community space designed for voting, events, and public gatherings—further enhancing its role as a central hub for the Georgia Bend community.
