Following more than three decades of advocacy for Georgia’s children, Traci Carter was honored with a retirement celebration on Friday, Jan. 16, at Folkston Methodist Church. The event marked the conclusion of a 32-year career defined by a deep-rooted family legacy of public service. Carter, a second-generation employee whose mother also retired from Charlton County DFCS, began her journey in 1994 with Child Support Enforcement in Brunswick. In 2002, she transitioned to the Charlton County DFCS, where she worked her way from a case manager in Foster Care and Child Protective Services to being named County Director in 2011. Her leadership expanded even further in 2013 when she assumed the role of Director for Brantley County DFCS as well. Beyond her administrative oversight, Carter was a pillar of community collaboration, leading the Family Connection initiatives in both counties. She credits much of her success to the “strong relationships” she built with her staff and local partners—connections she says were vital to effectively serving families. While her coworkers and friends expressed that her leadership will be greatly missed, Carter is looking forward to the new opportunities retirement brings. The agency extended its sincere gratitude to Carter for the lasting impact she made on countless lives throughout the community.
