Cris Walker “Mackie” McConnell (8/30/2026)
Cris Walker “Mackie” McConnell, 78, of Hilliard, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 30, 2026. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on April 12, 1948, to the late Ivor Maynard McConnell and Iris Walker McConnell.
Mackie dedicated much of his life to serving his community. He served as Mayor of Hilliard for two years and as a member of the Hilliard Town Council for 22 years. He was also a devoted member of the Hilliard Volunteer Fire Department for 50 years, where he proudly served as Fire Chief.
Mackie was a member of First Baptist Church of Hilliard and the American Legion. His many years of service and commitment to his community touched the lives of countless people, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife: Peggy Holland McConnell; and sisters: Lois Lloyd and Sandy Burnette.
He is survived by his children: Jason (Angela) McConnell and Lance (Susan) McConnell; grandchildren: Brittany (Allen) Leitner, Tyler McConnell, Hannah (Josh) Farrist, and Trey Hall; great-grandchildren: Hudson Leitner and Baker Leitner; and sister: Iva Jo (Lee) Germany.
A service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
