The Charlton County Indians and Maidens continue their off season work before officially starting practices on August 1. The Maidens softball team won't have many days to get ready as they open their season on August 7-8 at the Thomasville Invitational Tournament.

The Tribe will have their intrasquad scrimmage on August 6 and then hold their preseason scrimmage on August 13 against Islands High School from Savannah.

Courtney Williams represented herself very well last week at the WNBA All Star Game in Las Vegas. Williams scored 15 points making seven of eight shots as well as having two assists, one steal and a blocked shot to help Team WNBA defeat the United States Women's National Team 93-85.

L.J. Talley hit his fifth and sixth home runs of the year for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Talley picked up six hits, walked four times, scored six runs and drove in six more during the week.

 The American league won their eighth straight All Star Game defeating the National League 5-2. Vlad Guerrero, Jr., of the Toronto Blue Jays, was named the Most Valuable Player after blasting a two run home run. Atlanta Braves' players Freddie Freeman and Ozzie Albies both picked up a hit for the National League.

Returning to the regular season the Braves dropped two of three games to the Tampa Bay Rays and have fallen into third place in the National League East behind the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies.

The Milwaukee Bucks have bounced back from a two games to none deficit to win the next three games against the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Finals. Milwaukee had a chance to close out the series Tuesday at home if they can pick up the win.

As with high school football the collegiate game is also nearing. The Southeastern Conference will hold their annual Media days this week in Hoover, Alabama. A few games will begin the week of August 28, but the majority of teams will kickoff September 4.

At the British Open Collin Morikawa won his second Grand Slam tournament after taking the lead on the ninth hole and beating Justin Spieth by two strokes.

At the NASCAR Cup Series race at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway Aric Almirola held off Christopher Bell to pick up just his third career win in over three hundred races.

The Olympic Games will open up in Tokyo on Friday, but with Covid issues in Japan fans will not be able to attend and athletes will basically be quarantined until their event takes place.
