Come out and support the 2019 version of the Bethune Braves and Charlton C o u n t y Indians as they hold s c r i m m a g e s this week to wrap up spring f o o t b a l l practice. The Braves will host Waycross Middle School on Wednesday, while the Indians will face Camden County on Friday in Kingsland. 

Another former Charlton County athlete put his athletic scholarship to use and graduated from college last weekend. Ryan Young, who played baseball at Milligan College received his degree in education. 

The Georgia Bulldog baseball team split four games last week, falling in a mid-week game to Jacksonville State before taking two of three from Auburn over the weekend. Jack Gowen pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief against Jacksonville State, while striking out three batters. L.J. Talley heads into the final weekend of the season batting .335 on a team-high 65 hits. He has eight home runs and a team-leading on-base percentage of .450. 

Courtney Williams and her Connecticut Sun teammates will take the court for the first time on Monday when they host the New York Liberty in the opening preseason game. They will be in action again on Tuesday against the Dallas Wings. These are the first of three preseason games before opening the regular season on May 25 against the Washington Mystics. 

Florida knocked off top-seed Alabama to win the SEC softball championship over the weekend. The Gators 2-1 win gave them back-to-back tournament championships. 

After being swept in three games by the Los Angeles Dodgers and losing the opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Atlanta Braves bounced back to win the final three games to remain three games behind the Philadelphia Phillies. The Braves currently own a 21-20 record. 

Mike Fiers of the Oakland A’s pitched his second career no-hitter last Tuesday as the A’s blanked the Cincinnati Reds, 2-0. The no-hitter was the 300th recognized by Major League Baseball. Fiers also tossed a no-hitter back in 2015 as a member of the Houston Astros. 

In the NBA playoffs, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Houston Rockets in six games to advance to the Western Conference Finals. They will face the Portland Trail Blazers who overcame a 17-point deficit to defeat the Denver Nuggets in the deciding seventh game. 

In the Eastern Conference, the Milwaukee Bucks had no problem advancing beating the Boston Celtics in five games, while it took the full seven games for the Toronto Raptors to beat the Philadelphia 76er’s and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. It would take a buzzer beater by Kawhi Leonard to pull the Raptors through. 

The Jacksonville Sharks improved to 3-1 Saturday night after knocking off unbeaten and defending National Arena Champion Carolina Cobras, 35-24. The Sharks will host the Orlando Predators this Saturday night. 

At the Byron Nelson Classic, Sung Kang entered the final round with a three-stroke lead and ended up with a twostroke win over Scott Piercy and Matt Every for his first career PGA Tour win. 

Brad Keselowski held off Alex Bowman in overtime to win the NASCAR Cup race at the Kansas Speedway on Saturday. The win was the third of the season for Keselowski
