Congratulations to the Charlton County boys and girls track teams for winning the Region 2-A title at the region meet last Monday. Both squads will be in Camilla this Saturday for the State Sectional Meet.
Also congratulations go out to Shacario Bailey for being named the Region 2-A Player of the Year in baseball and Connor Nelson for being selected as the Offensive Player of the Year.
The Indian baseball squad advanced to the second round of the state playoffs after sweeping McIntosh County Academy in the opening round. The Tribe will face Johnson County at home on Tuesday, in a doubleheader, and a third game if needed will be played on Wednesday.
Savannah Pollock, Lauren Allbritton, and Jalees Murphy wrapped up their softball season at Wesleyan College with a doubleheader sweep of Covenant College. Savannah led the team with a .347 average and also led with 17 runs scored, 16 runs batted in and four triples. Allbritton batted .260 and led the team with three home runs and was second to Pollock with 14 RBI's. Murphy saw limited action in her first collegiate season, but did drive home two runs with her only hit.
Courtney Williams and the Atlanta Dream will have a preseason game against the Washington Mystics on Wednesday and start the regular season on May 14.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, as expected, selected quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the top pick in the NFL Draft. Then with their second first round pick, the Jaguars took Lawrence's Clemson teammate, running back Travis Etienne.
The top three picks were all quarterbacks. After Lawrence, the New York Jets took BYU's Zach Wilson and the San Francisco 49er's took North Dakota State's Trey Lance with the third pick. The Atlanta Falcons, picking fourth, selected Florida tight end Kyle Pitts.
The Atlanta Braves saw their losing streak go to four games after being swept by the Toronto Blue Jays. The Braves now own a 12-16 record on the young season.
The Atlanta Hawks and the Miami Heat are in a virtual tie for first place in the NBA's Southeast Division. While the Hawks are battling for a playoff berth, other teams have clinched their place in the postseason.

The NASCAR Cup Series race at the Kansas Speedway was determined by a two-lap shootout. Kyle Busch beat out Martin Truex, Jr. and Brad Keselowski to become the tenth different winner in this year's 11 races so far.
Medina Spirit won the Kentucky Derby by half a length to give trainer Bob Baffert a record seventh Derby winner. Medina Spirit led the entire race, but had to hold off Mandaloun at the end to claim the win.
