The Charlton County basketball teams continue to play exceptionally well as they knocked off Echols County and McIntosh County Academy last week. They will have two region contests this week against Atkinson County and Lanier County on Tuesday and Friday and will play Yulee on Saturday.

Former Indian, Chris Milton, has received another chance to continue his NFL career after being signed to the Miami Dolphins' practice squad. Milton was released by the New York Giants, in training camp earlier this year, after spending five seasons between the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans. 

The Georgia Bulldogs saw their chances of an undefeated season go up in smoke last Saturday at the SEC Championship Game. Alabama handled the Bulldogs 41-24 and will enter the College Football Playoff as the top seeded team.

The Crimson Tide will take on fourth seeded Cincinnati in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, while the Bulldogs dropped to the third seed and will play second seeded Michigan in the Orange Bowl.

Florida was chosen to play in the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa and will face the University of Central Florida.

Valdosta State advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Playoffs with a win over Bowie State. The Blazers will host Colorado School of the Mines in Valdosta on Saturday, in hopes of advancing to the championship game.

In another shocking coaching move, Notre Dame's Brian Kelly, announced that he was leaving to become the next head coach at LSU. Kelly finished up 11-1 this year and ranked fifth and just outside of the playoff. LSU was 6-6 just two years removed from being national champions.

The Jacksonville Jaguars traveled the country to face the Los Angeles Rams, but the results were the same as they have been most of the year. After leading 16-7 at the half, the Rams scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to beat the Jaguars 37-7 and drop Jacksonville to 2-10 on the year.

The Atlanta Falcons were down just three points to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but would fall by a 30-17 score to fall to 5-7.

In college basketball, top ranked Duke didn't stop on top of the rankings very long. They were defeated by Ohio State, suffering their first loss of the year. Second ranked should move into the top spot after winning their lone game last week. Third ranked Gonzaga also went down in defeat losing to Alabama

In the NBA, the Phoenix Suns saw their franchise record 18 game winning streak snapped by the Golden State Warriors. The two teams now share the league's best record at 19-4.
