The Charlton County basketball team saw their dream season end as they fell to Wilkinson County in the GHSA Class A Division II State Championship Game. Foul trouble proved costly as they fell 40-36. Despite the loss the Indians had a fantastic season and should be back in the title hunt again next season.
The Indian baseball team won their only matchup of the week when they defeated Atkinson County. The Indians had two games rained out and begin the week with a 6-2 record overall and 2-1 in Region 2-A.
L.J. Talley is continuing to get some playing time with the Toronto Blue Jays in spring training. Wishing him well the next two weeks of spring training in his bid to make the big league club.
Trevor Knowles picked up four hits and drove in three runs last week for Georgia College. He is getting most of the work behind the plate for the Bobcats.
Teon Burroughs and the Quad City Steamwheelers will open up their season this Sunday against the Arizona Rattlers in Indoor Football League action.
In college hoops three of the top four teams lost their conference championship games. Top ranked Houston, second ranked UCLA and third ranked Kansas all went down. Fourth ranked Alabama came out on top in the SEC Championship Game.
With all the tournaments completed the brackets for March Madness were set. Alabama gained the top overall seed, while despite losing in their conference finals Houston and Kansas along with Purdue, the Big Ten champion were all given top seeds. While the SEC had eight teams make the NCAA field neither Georgia or Florida was among them.
In women's hoops, top ranked South Carolina is the top overall seed followed by Indiana, Virginia Tech and Stanford.
On the NASCAR Cup Series, William Byron won for the second week in a row at the Phoenix Raceway. Byron pulled away in overtime to beat out Ryan Blaney to the checkered flag.
At The Player's Championship, Scottie Scheffler pulled away from the field to win by a comfortable five strokes. In the process he became the number one ranked player on the PGA Tour.
