Congratulations to the Charlton County Maidens slow pitch softball team for qualifying for the state tournament after winning two of three games in last week’s sectional tournament. 

They are one of just eight teams remaining in the state still playing and the lone Class A school in the state tourney.

The Charlton County baseball team wrapped up the regular season with a 18-9 record after splitting four games in the final week. The Tribe will open the state playoffs on the road this Wednesday according the GHSA playoff brackets. 

The opponent was undetermined as of press time, but pending appeals of the power rankings, or any last-minute score updates, it looks as if the Indians will be playing Bowdon. 

The fifth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs bounced back from their first series loss last week to beat Clemson, 3-2, in a 20-inning game and then sweeping Missouri in three games to improve to 33-8 on the season. L.J. Talley picked up five RBI’s during the week, including hitting his sixth home run in the final game against Missouri. 

Courtney Williams saw her season in Spain come to a close after falling in the third, and deciding, game of the playoffs. She will now relax for a few weeks before heading to training camp with the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA. 

The Atlanta Braves have a 10-10 record after winning just one of five games entering Sunday night’s game against the Cleveland Indians. The one win was one to remember as the Braves scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth to edge Cleveland, 8-7.

The NFL Draft begins this Thursday in Nashville with the Arizona Cardinals holding the first overall pick. The Jacksonville Jaguars have the seventh pick in the draft and maybe they can find their quarterback of the future.

The Jacksonville Sharks evened their record at 1-1 after knocking off the Columbus Lions on the road by a 48-24 score. The Sharks get an early bye week then return to action on the road when they face the Massachusetts Pirates on May 4.

The Boston Celtics became the first team to advance to the second round of the NBA playoffs after sweeping the Indiana Pacers in four games. 

Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors, and Houston Rockets are just one win away from moving on.

C.T. Pan won his first career PGA Tour event after beating Matt Kuchar by one stroke at the RBC Heritage Classic at Hilton head.

NASCAR took the Easter weekend off and will return this week at the Talledega Super Speedway.
