The Charlton County Maidens clinched the second seed in Region 2-A last week with region wins over Irwin County and Brooks County. The 17-6 Maidens were set to host Screven County in the first round of the GHSA playoffs on Tuesday, with a doubleheader and another game on Wednesday if needed in the best of three series. If they advance to the second round it will be against the Wilcox County/ Pelham winner. 

The Charlton County Indians hit a bump in the road last Friday night and lost 53-7 to the Turner County Rebels. The loss evens their record at 3-3 and 1-1 in Region 2-A.

Courtney Williams continued her good play overseas with an 18 point effort last Saturday in her team's win in Turkey. The Galatasaray team is 3-1 so far on the season.

Under the direction of former Indian standout Jacob Baxter, Islands High School in Savannah claimed their first ever region championship in softball. The Sharks hosted Columbus on Monday to begin the Class AAAA state playoffs.  

The Tennessee Titans had to play twice in a week after their game last week was postponed until Tuesday. Chris Milton made a great open field tackles on special teams as the Titans routed the Buffalo Bills 42-16. Then on Sunday the Titans beat the Houston Texans 42-36 to improve to 5-0 on the season. 

The Jacksonville Jaguars fell to 1-5 on the season after falling to the Detroit Lions 34-16. The Jaguars don't seem to be showing any improvement as the season progresses.

  Meanwhile the Atlanta Falcons, in their first game after the firing of head coach Dan Quinn, won their first game of the season after jumping out to a 20-0 lead then going on to win 40-23 over the Minnesota Vikings.

The third ranked Georgia Bulldogs led second ranked Alabama 24-20 at the half, but the Crimson Tide dominated the second half to give the Bulldogs their first loss of the year 41-20.

Topranked Clemson continued to run roughshod over it's opponents. The Tigers blasted Georgia Tech 73-7 to maintain their top spot. Fifth ranked North Carolina found itself in a 31-7 hole at the half and couldn't complete the comeback falling to the Seminoles 31-28.

The Atlanta Braves opened up a three games to one lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers, but saw the Dodgers rally back to win three games in a row and deny the Braves a trip to the World Series.

In the American League, the Tampa Bay Rays outlasted the Houston Astros in seven games to earn just their second World Series trip in franchise history.

The year 2020 has claimed yet another Hall of Fame baseball player. Last week Joe Morgan, who was part of the Cincinnati Reds' Big Red Machine, passed away at the age of 77. Morgan was a two time National League Most Valuable Player while playing for two World Series champions.

At the Kansas Speedway, Joey Logano held off Kevin Harvick to earn the first entry in the Championship Four Round. The remaining seven drivers will have two more races to earn their chance at the championship.
