The Charlton County Maidens improved to 7-1 on the year after losing to Ware County and defeating Echols County heading into the Christmas break. Covid-19 cases continue to postpone games for the Indians, as they were only able to play against Ware last week and came up just short.
Courtney Williams and her Galatasaray squad in Turkey suspended the regular season to compete in the EuroLeague Tournament. Williams scored 23 points grabbed ten rebounds and dished out nine assists in two losses.
Chris Milton and the Tennessee Titans improved to 10-4 on the season after routing the Detroit Lions 46-25. They remain tied with the Indianapolis Colts on top of the AFC South standings.
The Florida Gators gave Alabama all they wanted in the SEC Championship Game, but in the end it would be the Crimson Tide claiming the crown with a 52-46 win. Clemson gained some revenge for their only loss of the season by knocking off Notre Dame 34-10 in the ACC Championship. Ohio State struggled against Northwestern, but was able to pull of a 22-10 win for the Big 10 Championship.
The final College Playoff poll was released Sunday and the top four teams remained the same although the order changed. Top ranked Alabama will play fourth ranked Notre Dame in one semifinal, while second ranked Clemson and third ranked Ohio State meet in the other half of the bracket.
Ninth ranked Georgia, which had it's regular season finale against Vanderbilt canceled, will play on New Year's Day in the Peach Bowl against eighth ranked Cincinnati. Seventh ranked Florida will head to the Cotton Bowl to play Oklahoma.
Other state teams heading to bowl games are Georgia Southern who will play Louisiana Tech on Wednesday in the New Orleans Bowl, while Georgia State will play Western Kentucky in the First Responder Bowl on Saturday.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are doing their best to get the top draft pick as they fell to 1-13 on the season after losing to the Baltimore Ravens 40-14. The Jaguars are tied with the New York Jets, who won their first game on Sunday, for the worst record in the league.
Meanwhile, the second half woes of the Atlanta Falcons reared their heads Sunday. After taking a 17-0 halftime lead against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Falcons allowed Tampa Bay to score on five straight second half possessions to win by a 31-27 score. With the loss Atlanta falls to 4-10.
In college basketball the top game of the week featured top ranked Gonzaga beating third ranked Iowa. The only other loss among top ten teams was ninth ranked Creighton losing to Marquette. On the flip side perennial power Kentucky lost their fifth straight game and their 1-5 start is their worst since the 1926-27 season.
