The Charlton County football team defeated McIntosh County Academy last Friday night in Darien, to improve to 3-0 on the season for the first time since 2017. The Tribe got two fourth quarter touchdowns to pull out the win.

The Charlton County Maidens softball team continues to battle Mother Nature as two games were canceled last week due to weather. The one game they did get to play they fell to Appling County making the Maidens 5-3 on the season.

The Bethune Middle School Braves football team had a tough day against St. Marys Middle School falling, 35-8. The Braves traveled to Lake City on Tuesday, and will rap up their season next Tuesday in Callahan.

Courtney Williams averaged a double-double last week scoring 43 points and grabbing 20 rebounds in two games. The Dream will wrap up their regular season on Sunday.

L.J. Talley and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats had their entire week of games canceled due to COVID issues. Hopefully they can get back on the field for the final week of the regular season. 

Former Indian, Teon Burroughs, was named the Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week after his opening week performance against Kennesaw State.

In last weekend's action, another former Indian, Marcell Maxwell, was in on five tackles for Defiance College.

Blackshear's Stetson Bennett threw five touchdown passes to lead Georgia to a 56-7 win over the University of Alabama-Birmingham last Saturday. Bennett started in place of an injured J.T. Daniels and had touchdowns on four of his first five passes.

Top-ranked Alabama cruised to a 48-14 win over Mercer, but third-ranked Ohio State was upset at home by Oregon, 35-28. Fifth-ranked Texas A and M and eighth-ranked Notre Dame both avoided upsets by scoring late touchdowns to beat Colorado and Toledo, respectively. Other teams in the top 25 to go down were ninth-ranked Iowa State, fifteenth-ranked Texas and number 21 Utah.

With 20 games left in the regular season, the Atlanta Braves increased their lead in the National League East to 4.5 games over the Philadelphia Phillies. The Braves won two of three games from both the Washington Nationals and the Florida Marlins last week.

The NFL got underway last weekend, but unfortunately the Jacksonville Jaguars are still a long way away from contending. Trevor Lawrence threw his first two professional touchdown passes but was intercepted three times as the Jaguars lost to the Houston Texans 37-21. Things aren't any better in Atlanta, as the Falcons failed to find the end zone in a 32-6 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles.

In the second race of the first round of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs Martin Truex, Jr. clinched his spot into the second round, after beating Denny Hamlin to the finish line at the Richmond International Speedway. This weekend the drivers head to Bristol as the playoff field will be cut to 12 drivers after this race.
