Congratulations to the Charlton County wrestlers, Asad Akbar and Thomas Johnson for placing in their respective weight classes at the state wrestling tournament in Macon this past week. Akbar finished fourth overall, while Johnson finished in fifth place.

Also congratulations to the Maiden basketball team for qualifying for the state tournament. They will travel this Thursday to Ocilla to face Brooks County to determine whether they will be the region's third or fourth seed. The Maidens will be on the road for the first round of the playoffs against a yet to be determined opponent. The first round is scheduled to take place on either February 23 or 24.

The Indian baseball team dropped its scrimmage last week to Glynn Academy and opens up the regular season on the road against Brunswick High School. The home opener will take place on Thursday when the Tribe hosts Ware County.

Bethune Middle School baseball and softball seasons get underway this week. The Braves will host Hilliard and St. Marys Middle School on Tuesday and Wednesday before traveling to Jacksonville to play Providence Christian on Thursday and Atkinson County Middle School on Saturday. The Maidens will open their season at home Tuesday against Hilliard.

Recreation baseball and softball signups are currently underway and will continue until February 26.

Former Indian football player Teon Burroughs registered five tackles and two quarterback sacks last Saturday as Reinhardt University beat Faulkner University 34-10 to move to 2-0 on the season.

There will be several other former Indians playing college football this spring due to Covid canceling their fall seasons. Travon Greene and Marcell Maxwell are both listed on the roster for Defiance College in Ohio. Their season will begin on March 6. Also, Andrew Lee will be suiting up for William Jewell College in Missouri. They will kickoff their season on March 27.

Trevor Knowles doubled and drove in a run in his only action of the week for Gordon State College.

Jack Gowen and the Georgia Bulldogs open their season up on Friday with a three game series against Evansville.

L.J. Talley has been assigned by the Toronto Blue Jays to their Class A affiliate in Dunedin, Florida. It has been reported that Class A players won't report until spring training until the major league players have left the facilities in order to practice social distancing at spring training facilities.

Pitchers and catchers will report to spring training for the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, while position players will arrive next Monday.

 After a 16 car crash on lap 13 at the Daytona 500 was halted by a lengthy rain delay, they finally got started after nine o'clock Sunday night. It would end with Michael McDowell winning after Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski crashed ahead of him on the final lap. 

 At the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Daniel Berger sank a 30 foot eagle putt on the final hole to pull off a two shot win over Maverick McNealy. The win was the fourth of Berger's PGA career.
