The Indian baseball team dropped two of three last week, but most importantly the win over Irwin County kept them unbeaten in Region 2-A action.
They are on the road Tuesday at Telfair County in another region contest before returning home Thursday to face Brantley County. On Saturday, the Tribe will play a doubleheader with Bradwell Institute being the opponent in the first game, wrapping up the day with a game against Hilliard.
The Bethune Middle School Braves had no problems knocking off Clinch County last week picking up a 16-0 three-inning victory. The Braves improve to 4-1 on the season and will travel to Yulee Thursday before playing Saturday at home against Hilliard following varsity action.
The Charlton County slow pitch softball team is scheduled to open their season this Friday when they play host to West Laurens High School out of Dublin in a doubleheader.
The Georgia Bulldogs won three of five games last week with former Indian L.J. Talley continuing to shine early in the season. Talley picked up seven hits during the week, drove in four runs, and hit his third home run of the season.
In college hoops, top-ranked Gonzaga ended the run of number one teams falling as they improved to 29-2 on the year.
Second-ranked Virginia is right on their heels at 26-2. Third-ranked Duke wasn’t as fortunate as they fell to Virginia Tech and fourth-ranked Kentucky felt the revenge from seventh-ranked Tennessee after an earlier loss this season.
With one week left in the regular season, Tennessee and LSU remain on top of the SEC standings while Kentucky is looming just one game behind.
As the NBA has passed the three-quarter mark of the regular season, the Milwaukee Bucks continue to maintain the league’s best record at 48-15. They are two games ahead of Eastern Conference foe, the Toronto Raptors.
Meanwhile in the Western Conference, the Golden State Warriors hold a game and a half lead over the Denver Nuggets.
Keith Mitchell birdied the eighteenth hole to outlast Brooks Koepka and Ricky Fowler by one stroke at the Honda Classic. The win was the first career PGA win for Mitchell.
Joey Logano held off Brad Keselowski on Sunday to win the NASCAR Cup Series race at the Las Vegas Speedway.
