The Charlton County football team dropped their first game of the year last Friday night when they were defeated by Turner County, 13-7. The Indians get this week off to regroup before having to face Brooks County in Quitman next Friday night.

Congratulations to the Maidens softball team for clinching a first round home playoff series. The Maidens are tied with Lanier County for the top spot in the region but Lanier will take the top spot due to the tiebreaker in place. First round action begins on October 12 against a yet to be determined opponent.

Former Indian Teon Burroughs led Reinhardt University with six tackles Saturday in their 40-16 win over Ave Maria University. Another former Indian registered four tackles for Defiance College in their loss.

In college football top ranked Alabama and second ranked Georgia continued to cruise along undefeated. Alabama beat twelfth ranked Ole Miss 42-21 while Georgia knocked off eighth ranked Arkansas, 37-0. Several other top ten teams didn’t fare so well as third ranked Oregon lost to Stanford, ninth ranked Notre Dame fell to Cincinnati and tenth ranked Florida was upset by Kentucky.

The Atlanta Braves won five of their last six games to clinch the National League East for the fourth straight season. They will play the Milwaukee Brewers in the opening round of the playoffs. Tthe San Francisco Giants will face the winner of the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers wild card game.

In the American League, the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will battle it out in the wild card game with the winner facing the Tampa Bay Rays. In the other match up it will be the Chicago White Sox versus the Houston Astros.

The Jacksonville Jaguars dropped to 0-4 on the season after the Cincinnati Bengals kicked a last second field goal to win 24-21 last Thursday night.

The Atlanta Falcons gave up a thirty yard touchdown pass with thirty seconds left to lose to the Washington Football Team 34-30 and are now 1-3 on the season.

The NASCAR Cup Series playoff race at Talledega was postponed until Monday with the winner automatically advancing to the next round.
