The Charlton County Indians football team earned their way into the GHSA State Football Playoffs after beating Atkinson County 14-0 last Friday night in Folkston. The Indians will travel to play Region 4-A champion Wilcox County on Saturday, at 6:30 p.m. Congratulations to all the players and coaches for their hard work in getting the Tribe back into the postseason.
The Bethune Middle school basketball teams will get their seasons underway on Monday, November 15, when they play host to Callahan Middle School
Former Indian, Teon Burroughs, played his final home regular season game for Reinhardt University on Saturday. Burroughs gave the home crowd a good performance with five tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble. The eighth ranked Eagles have one regular season game remaining before hoping to make a run in the NAIA Playoffs.
Marcell Maxwell returned from missing a game and made two tackles in his return for Defiance College.
The Atlanta Braves brought the World Series title back to Georgia for the first time since 1995 after defeating the Houston Astros four games to two. Max Fried blanked the Astros for six innings in the final game and the bullpen kept Houston off the board the rest of the way in the 7-0 clincher. Jorge Soler, Dansby Swanson and Freddie Freeman all homered for the Braves.
The College Football Playoff committee released their first rankings last week with Georgia, Alabama, Michigan State and Oregon claiming the top four coveted spots.
The top ranked Georgia Bulldogs improved to 9-0 on the season after a 43-6 rout of the Missouri Tigers in Athens. Georgia will face a potentially tough road game this week when they head to Knoxville to play Tennessee.
While the Bulldogs had an easy time Saturday ,other ranked teams weren't so fortunate. Alabama had to hold off a valiant effort by LSU to win 20-14, while Michigan State dropped their first game of the year against Purdue 40-23. Fourth, fifth and sixth ranked Oregon, Ohio State and Cincinnati had less than impressive wins over Washington, Nebraska and Tulsa, respectively. Ninth ranked Wake Forest saw their playoff hopes disappear after losing a 58-55 shootout with North Carolina.
The Jacksonville Jaguars defense played their best game of the year keeping the Buffalo Bills out of the end zone along with intercepting two passes and recovering a fumble. The offense did just enough as their three field goals were one more than the Bills. as the Jaguars won their second game of the year 9-6.
The Atlanta Falcons let a 24-6 fourth quarter lead get away, but Matt Ryan's long pass to Cordarrelle Patterson with a minute remaining set up Younghoe Koo's field goal as time expired as the Falcons improved to 4-4 with a 27-25 win over the New Orleans Saints.
Kyle Larson won the NASCAR Cup Series championship Sunday after holding off Martin Truex, Jr. at the finish line. Larson took the lead after beating Truex, Chase Elliott and Denny Hamlin off pit road with 30 laps to go during a caution and led the remainder of the way.
