The Charlton County Maidens finished up their season with a 20-6 record after falling to Social Circle in the second round of the GHSA State Playoffs. Congratulations on an excellent year!

Also congratulations to Emma Woolard and Javonna Dykes as they were named Region 2-A Pitcher of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively. Gabby Tillis made First Team All Region, while Jesslyn Smith, Kylee Varnes and Charli Woolard were named to the second team.

The Charlton County Indians football team find themselves having to win the remaining two games of the regular season in order to guarantee a playoff position after falling to Irwin County last Friday night. They will be at Lanier County this Friday.

Former Indian, Teon Burroughs, made six tackles and recorded two quarterback sacks to help Reinhardt University improve to 6-2 on the season.

Another former Indian, Marcell Maxwell, made three tackles in helping Defiance College pick up their first win of the season.

The Atlanta Braves are heading to the World Series after beating the Los Angeles Dodgers four games to two. They will face the Houston Astros beginning on Tuesday, in their first appearance in the Fall Classic since 1999.

With top ranked Georgia off with a bye last week, some of the rest of the top ten either struggled or were beaten. Second ranked Cincinnati struggled to beat Navy, while third ranked Oklahoma had to come from behind to beat Kansas. Fourth ranked Alabama got a good fight from Tennessee before pulling away late for the win. Seventh ranked Penn State wasn't so fortunate, as they dropped a thrilling nine overtime game to Illinois. Eighth ranked Oklahoma State dropped from the ranks of the unbeaten after falling to Iowa State.

Georgia and Florida are set to match up this Saturday, in Jacksonville as the Gators are looking to ruin Georgia's perfect record.

The Jacksonville Jaguars had the week off, so their one game winning streak is still intact. Meanwhile, the Atlanta Falcons kicked a field goal on the final play of the game to edge the Miami Dolphins 30-28 to even their record at 3-3.

The NBA is back underway with the Atlanta Hawks splitting their first two games of the season as they look to maintain the momentum gained at the end of last season.

At the Kansas Speedway, Kyle Larson won again in the NASCAR Cup Series playoff race. It was Larson's third straight win and fourth over the last six playoff races. With Larson being the only driver locked into championship finale, the final three drivers will be determined this Sunday at the Martinsville Speedway.
