The slow pitch softball team at Charlton County High School opened up the season with a bang after sweeping a doubleheader against West Laurens out of Dublin.

The Maidens opened up the scoring on a single by Sydney Pevey scoring Samantha Baxter in the first inning. In the third inning, Pevey drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Maidens a 2-0 lead.

The score stayed that way until the fifth inning when Charlton erupted for six runs.

Pevey again drew a bases-loaded walk and Jalees Murphy followed with a single scoring two more runners. Lauren Allbritton capped off the inning with a three-run home run giving Charlton an 8-0 lead.

West Laurens would get on the board in the seventh inning scoring twice, but the Maidens would take the 8-2 win.

Allbritton led the eight-hit attack with two hits and three runs batted in. Rachael Lepley was the winning pitcher going the distance allowing just one earned run.

In the nightcap, the Maidens would use a big fourth inning to claim an 11-0 win. Charlton started the scoring in the first inning when Savannah Pollock led off the game with a solo home run and a 1-0 lead.

In the third inning, Allbritton drove in two runs with a single and Murphy added another run scoring single for a 4-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, the Maidens continued to flex their muscle as Pollock doubled with the bases loaded scoring three runs and Allbritton followed with her second home run of the day. After a single by Tiffany Rivera, the Maidens hit their third home run of the game when Murphy went deep over the center field fence for an 11-0 lead.

Neither team could add any more runs and the game was called after five innings.

Pollock and Allbritton both drove home four runs on two hits while Murphy added three RBI’s on a pair of hits. Murphy shut down West Laurens on the mound allowing no runs on just three hits.
