The Charlton County slow pitch softball team swept a doubleheader from Thomas County Central last Tuesday in Thomasville. Along with two forfeit wins picked up against Northeast Macon the Maidens are now 6-0 on the season.

In the opener, the Maidens scored four times right out the gate. Two errors led to the first two runs scoring and Tiffany Rivera and Andrea Duke both added RBI singles to take a 4-0 lead.

However, the Yellow Jackets bounced right back and took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the first inning. But the Maidens responded with a sacrifice fly by Lauran Allbritton and an RBI single by Jalees Murphy to regain the lead at 6-5. Back and forth the game went with the Yellow Jackets scoring twice in the bottom of the second to go back on top, 7-6.

Charlton would take the lead for good in the fourth inning. Murphy drove home Rachael Lepley to tie the score and would come home on an error to give the Maidens an 8-7 lead.

Savannah Pollock knocked home a run in the fifth and Murphy added another RBI in the seventh as Charlton held on for a 10-7 win.

Murphy’s three hits and three RBI’s led the Maidens while Lepley picked up the win on the mound.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets would strike first again, scoring once in the first inning. It would stay that way until the top of the third when Pollock’s double drove in two runs to give Charlton the 2-1 lead.

Still holding on to the slim lead in the fifth, it would be Pollock coming through again, this time with a triple, that plated two runners.

But in the bottom of the fifth the Yellow Jackets scored twice to cut into the lead at 4-3. The Maidens would add an insurance run in the sixth when Abigail Safford drew a bases-loaded walk and Charlton would hold on for a 5-3 win.

Pollock’s two hits and four RBI’s paced the Maidens while Murphy was the winning pitcher, with Lepley coming on late to finish the game.
