The Charlton County Maidens and Indians continued play during the Christmas break with two away games against Appling County and Jeff Davis. The Maidens were able to defeat Appling, but fell short against Jeff Davis, while the Tribe was unable to pick up a win.
On the Friday prior to Christmas, the Maidens played Appling County in Baxley. In a tight game the Maidens took a 16-15 lead at the half. The Lady Pirates were able to tie the score at 26-26 after the third quarter. But the Maidens were able to hit eight free throws down the stretch in the fourth quarter to pull away and claim a 41-33 win. Shadiamond Green led Charlton with 13 points, while Jordan Vernon and Makayla Garard put up nine and eight points, respectively.
Then on the Saturday after Christmas, the Maidens were back on the road to play Jeff Davis. In a low scoring affair, Charlton trailed 18-13 at the break before cutting into the lead slightly after three quarters at 24-20. Jeff Davis would outscore the Maidens 11-5 in the final period to take home a 35-25 win. Sadie brown led Charlton with 11 points, including hitting five of six from the free throw line. The Maidens currently have a 4-7 record for the season.
The Indians dropped a tight 64-56 decision to Appling County and then fell again to Jeff Davis. Against the Yellow Jackets the Tribe fell behind 30-16 at the break and saw the deficit grow to 55-30 after three quarters. The Indians would rally in the fourth quarter, but they had too much ground to make up as they lost 73-59. Individual scorers were not available. The Indians fall to 6-5 on the season.
Both squads will continue to play through the holidays as they host Pierce County on Thursday, Lanier County on Friday, and Hilliard on Saturday.
