The Charlton County Maidens basketball team saw their season come to a close last week falling on the road 71-57 to Emanuel County Institute. The fourth seeded Maidens gave ECI all they could handle into the third quarter before the Bulldogs pulled away.

Trailing 20-13 after the opening period, the Maidens rallied back to cut the deficit to 29-27 at the break behind Makaylah Garard's 17 first half points.

The Maidens were still within two points at 35-33 with just under six minutes left in the third quarter, but ECI closed the quarter on a 20-12 run to take a 55-45 lead into the final quarter. The Maidens would fight hard until the end, but the Bulldogs would be too much in the end as they advanced with a 71-57 win.

Garard kept the Maidens in the game with her team high 32 points, while Sadie Brown was also in double figures with 11. Jordan Vernon scored eight points and Heaven Whitlock added six points to wrap up the scoring.
