Tying for the region lead and making it to the second round of the state playoffs led several Charlton County Maidens softball players to be honored by the region coaches.

Senior Emma Woolard capped off her final season by being named Region 2-A Pitcher of the Year. Woolard picked up 12 wins and two saves on the mound with a 1.44 earned run average to lead the Maidens. She struck out 127 batters in 78 innings, while allowing opponents to bat just .154 while she was in the circle.

Senior shortstop, Javonna Dykes, was named the Region 2-A Defensive Player of the Year. Dykes handled 67 chances at shortstop while committing just six errors. Offensively, Dykes batted .407 for the year and scored a team high 37 runs while stealing 23 bases from her leadoff position.

Making First Team All Region was junior catcher Gabby Tillis. Tillis batted .400 on a team high 30 hits. Behind the plate she handled 203 chances, while making just four errors. Her lone home run helped defeat Lanier County in a key region game down the stretch.

Maidens on the second team were junior third baseman Jesslyn Smith, junior outfielder Kylee Varnes and sophomore pitcher/first baseman Charli Woolard. Smith batted .407 including seven extra base hits, while scoring 21 runs and driving in 15 more.

Varnes batted .333, scored 21 runs, while driving in the same amount. Charli Woolard batted .303 and drove in 12 runs at the plate and pitched in 22 games picking up eight wins with an earned run average of 1.56.
