The basketball teams of Charlton County High School returned to the court after Christmas last Thursday at Irwin County and the two teams came away with much different results. The Maidens would improve to 12-1 on the seson, while the Indians would fall to 10-3.

The Maidens started out fast against Irwin by taking a 15-4 first quarter lead that was extended to 28-14 at the break. Charlton would keep the pressure on in the second half and cruised to a 53-35 win. Makaylah Garard led the Maidens with 19 points, while Jordan Vernon was right behind with 17 points.

The Indians had a tough night shooting, while Irwin shot lights out. The Tribe trailed 21-13 after one quarter, but Irwin exploded in the second quarter to open up a 46-18 lead. The Indians would play better in the second half, but the damage was already done, as they fell by a 86-53 score. Curtis Burroughs led the way with 17 points, while Elyiss Williams added 13 points and 12 rebounds.

The fourth ranked (by MaxPreps) Maidens and the Indians will be back in action on Tuesday in a road matchup against Brantley County, before a big game Friday night at home against Turner County.
