The Charlton County Indians and Maidens keep on rolling along, after both squads picked up wins over Atkinson County and McIntosh County Academy last week. The Maidens are currently 9-0 on the season, while the Indians are right behind at 8-1. Both teams played in the Holiday Hoopfest Tournament in Thomasville this week before taking off for the Christmas break.

The Maidens opened up the week Tuesday, in Pearson, when they faced off against Atkinson County in a Region 2-A matchup. The Maidens would virtually put the game away in the first quarter running out to a 22-3 advantage. The lead would continue to grow throughout, as Charlton would claim a 72-33 win. Makaylah Garard led the way with 20 points, while Jordan Vernon15 and Shadiamond Greene 13 were also in double figures.

On Saturday, at McIntosh County Academy, the Maidens came out sluggish and led just 9-4 after the opening quarter and 21-15 at the break. They would finally find their groove in the second half and eventually pull away for a 58-33 win. Heaven Whitlock led Charlton with 20 points, while Vernon and Garard added 16 and 13 points, respectively.

As for the Indians, they started slow against an Atkinson team they had beaten easily earlier in the season and only led 26-24 at the half. But, the Tribe outscored the Rebels 29-18 in the second half to take a 65-42 win. Jarvis Wright led the way with 25 points, while Elyiss Williams added 17 points.

Against McIntosh, the two teams battled close throughout with Curtis Burrough's buzzer beater at the end of the first quarter giving Charlton a 19-16 lead. The lead would eventually get stretched out to 16 points in the fourth quarter before the Buccaneers made a late rally. But the Tribe held on to win 68-60. Burroughs led with 23 points, while Jaylen King scored 16 points and Williams followed with 12 points.
