In another week when more games were canceled than were played, the Charlton County Maidens’ softball team dropped their lone contest of the week when they fell to Appling County, 8-1, last Tuesday. Games against Islands and Brooks County were canceled due to weather issues.
The Maidens would start off hot in the top of the first inning when Gabby Tillis hit a one out single and Abby Safford tripled to put Charlton up, 1-0.
But the Lady Pirates would put up three runs in the second inning and not look back. They would add another run in the fourth and then put the game away in the sixth, scoring four more times to take the 8-1 win.
Charlton was only able to get three hits in the game with Gillis having two singles along with Safford's triple.
With the loss the Maidens drop to 5-3 on the season and remain 3-1 in region play.
