Last Thursday in Ocilla the Charlton County Maidens and Brooks County Lady Trojans squared off to determine the region’s number three and four seeds. In a tightly contested game it would be Brooks pulling out a two point win. With the loss the Maidens, as a four seed will travel to face the Region 3-A champions Emanuel County Institute on Tuesday in the first round of the GHSA State playoffs. If they happen to win that game they will face the winner of the Pelham/Wilcox County game on the road this weekend.

In the Brooks game the Maidens and Lady Trojans battled tooth and nail for the majority of the game. The Maidens would jump out to a 12-9 advantage and extend their lead to 24-20 at the half.

But in the third quarter Brooks outscored Charlton, 16-6, and took a six-point lead heading into the final quarter. Trailing by three with 2:58 remaining Heaven Whitlock hit a three point basket to tie it up. After a Brooks basket Whitlock would drill another shot from long range as the Maidens took a 47-46 lead with 1:38 remaining. After a Brooks free throw tied the score the Lady Trojans would score the game winning basket with 0:22 seconds left and go on to the 49-47 win.

The Maidens got balanced scoring with Jordan Vernon leading with twelve points. Makaylah Garard was right behind scoring eleven while Shadiamond Greene was also in double figures with ten points. Whitlock scored eight key points in the fourth quarter.
