The Charlton County wrestling team competed in the State Sectional Tournament this past weekend at Strong Rock Christian Academy, in Locust Grove, and in the end would have two of their wrestlers advance to compete at the State Tournament this weekend in Macon.

Thomas Johnson finished fifth in the 113-pound weight class to advance. Johnson won his opening match by pin fall, before falling in the quarterfinals to drop into the consolation bracket. After receiving a bye, Johnson won two of three matches by pin to earn his fifth place finish.

Asad Akbar would also advance to state with a fifth place finish. He received an opening round bye before winning by pin fall in the quarterfinal round. Akbar would fall in the semifinal round and then drop a decision in the consolation semifinals before rallying back to claim his place at state with an 8-2 win by decision.

Edward McCormick and Jaylen Lilley will be alternates for state after both placed seventh in their weight class while Kyler Williams and Nathan Johnson both ended the day with eighth place finishes.
