The Charlton County wrestling team travelled to Turner County last Saturday to compete in the Area Tournament and four of the wrestlers qualified to advance to the next round, the Sectional Tournament in Ocilla this weekend.

Leading the charge was Tommy Layden, who claimed the first area title for a Charlton wrestler in several years by going undefeated on the day.

William Hogg advanced to the finals in his weight class, but ultimately would finish second.

Thomas Johnson qualified for sectionals with a third place finish and Craig Carlisle advanced with a fourth place showing.

In a separate tournament, Bethune Middle School wrestler Edward McCormick competed in a middle school tournament in Camden County and finished with a third place showing.
