The Bethune Middle School basketball teams had a busy week playing Fernandina Beach, Camden Middle, and Callahan last week with each squad winning twice.

After dropping their first game of the year the week before, the Maidens lost their second-straight since returning from the holidays against Fernandina Beach last Monday. A cold-shooting first half left them in a 21-4 halftime deficit. The Maidens would rally in the second half, but couldn't overcome the Fernandina lead as they fell, 35-24. Christiona Farmer and Heaven Whitlock led Bethune with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

They then would face Camden Middle on Wednesday. The Maidens would get back on track opening up a 19-11 halftime lead and maintained that lead throughout the second half and brought home a 39-29 win. Farmer led with 20 points, while Whitlock added 17 more.

The final game of the week was at Callahan and the Maidens scratched and clawed to pull out a 35-34 win. Game details were not available. The Maidens are currently 9-2 on the season.

The Braves would knock off Fernandina Beach, 48-40, in their opening game of the week. They were led by leading scorers Jamari Hamilton and Jarvis Wright and leading rebounder Elyiss Williams.

Against Camden, the Braves would face off against a very good squad and fell behind 32-17 at the break. Things would not go much better in the second half as Camden prevailed, 58-27. Hamilton led the way with 15 points.

At Callahan, the Braves were the much more superior team as they crushed the Ramblers by a 53-8 score. Other details were not available. The Braves are currently 8-3 on the season.

Both teams are set for their season finale on Tuesday when they travel to Kingsland to face Camden Middle once again.
