The Bethune Middle School Maidens remained unbeaten and the Braves improved to 3-1 after beating Fernandina Beach at home last Thursday.
The Maidens undefeated season looked like it may be in doubt early on as they were blanked 4-0 in the first quarter. But they heated up in the second quarter to take a 12-8 halftime lead. Behind Christiona Farmer’s 13 points in the third quarter the Maidens would open up a 29-10 lead on the way to a 33-22 win. Farmer led the Maidens with 22 points.
The Braves’ game started off slowly, with Bethune leading by just a 6-2 margin after the opening quarter. But a 16-5 run in the second quarter led to a 15 point halftime lead. The teams would play on near even terms in the second half as the Braves prevailed 37-24. Jamari Hamilton was the lone Brave in double figures as he led the way with 17 points.
