David Woolard, lifetime resident of Folkston, age 86, passed away peacefully the morning of October 24, 2019 at St. Vincent's Medical Center-Community Hospice in Jacksonville, Florida.  David was born in Folkston, and was the son of the late Iron Edgar Woolard and Josephine Guinn Woolard.  Known to many as "Mr. Dave", he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.

Working in his yard was his biggest passion with beautiful various flowers blooming year round. If riding by his home, you would most likely see him riding on his lawnmower, raking, or out feeding his birds. He loved working in his yard and was very proud of his azaleas and the many compliments he would receive when they were blooming.

In 1951, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country where he was stationed at the Hunter Air Force Base in Savannah, Georgia.  He worked for 15 years as a supervisor for Super Test/Charter Oil Company managing various stations throughout Florida and Georgia. However, many remember him as the lead singer with the Apostles Quartet where he traveled and sang gospel music for over 20 years.  He was also well known as an appliance repairman, working and repairing various machines for the citizens of Charlton County.   For the last 25 years, he worked with Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home, serving families in their time of grief.  Dave was a member of the First Baptist Church in Folkston where he was ordained as a deacon in 1975 as well as serving as a deacon for Camp Pinckney Baptist Church.

Dave is survived by his three daughters, Rhonda (Buddy) Francis, Judy (Ray) Canaday, and Brenda (Robert) Mahoney; two sisters, Edna Lambert and Joann (Glen) Rowell; 11 amazing grandchildren, 20 precious great-grandchildren, and numerous loved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his spouse of 68 years, Dorothy Anne Woolard; his son, Richard David Woolard; his father, Ed Woolard; his mother, Josie Woolard; his sisters, Inez Prockupski and Jean Daniels; his brother, J. C. Woolard; and one great-granddaughter, Isabelle Thiel.

Visitation was held Monday, October 28 at the Camp Pinckney Baptist Church in Folkston.  Funeral services were afterwards with Reverend Buddy Francis, Reverend Tim Hall, and Rev. Dr. Randy Jacoby officiating. Burial followed in the Camp Pinckney Baptist Church cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Patrick Canaday, Trampas Canaday, Wayne Francis, Davy Woolard, Michael Paul Woolard, Joe Phillips, and Jacob Phillips.  Honorary Pallbearers will be John Thiel, Mike Leatherman, Shawn Wigg, Larry Kern, and Joe Peterson.

Condolences may be expressed by signing the guest registry at www.shepardfh.com. Arrangements were under the direction of Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home, Folkston.
