The first ever Friends of Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge (formerly OWL) Youth Fishing Derby will be held June 8, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Fun out door recreation for parents and youth is the goal of the derby. The derby will be held at Folkston Elementary School Lake in the fenced in area just behind the Folkston Elementary School.
Parents bring your child, fishing pole, stringer and bait to the derby. Registration of youth ages 3-15 will begin at 7:00 a.m. with a bull horn signal to start fishing at 8:00 a.m. and end at 10:00 a.m. The fish counts will start at 9:00 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for the longest fish and the most fish caught by youth groups.
