The Folkston Police Department released reports from April 5 through April 17.
On April 5, Officer James Murray was dispatched to GA Highway 4 in reference to a reckless driver. Officer Murray observed a 2014 Infinity QX60 occupy two lanes of travel. Officer Murray conducted a traffic stop and made contact with, Ceather Yolonda Watkins. Watkins smelled of an alcoholic beverage and appeared to be intoxicated, due to the blood shot watery eyes, and she was also unaware if her location. A field sobriety was attempted The HGN test was performed, but Ms. Watkins could not perform the other two test. Watkins was placed under arrest for DUI. Two open containers were found in the vehicle. A search was obtained and executed on Watkins and two vials of blood were collected. Watkins was charged and turned over to the jailor on duty. The vehicle was secured and left on the roadside.
On April 6, Officer James Murray was dispatched to the Friendly Express Truck Stop in reference to shoplifting. Upon arrival Officer Murray made contact with complainant whom advised that Gerry Eugene Whittaker, had eaten and concealed multiple food items valued at $7.00. The items were photographed and turned back over to the complainant. Whittaker was placed under arrest and transported to the jail. Upon arrival to the jail, Whittaker, was Mirandized and interviewed, at which time he requested an attorney. This case is closed.
On April 14, Officer Gary Rhoden, observed a 2015 Toyota Corolla traveling south on GA Highway 4 with no taillights. Officer Rhoden conducted a traffic stop and met Shelly Marie Hexamer, the driver. Officer Rhoden could smell a strong odor of burnt marijuana. Officer Rhoden had Hexamer and the passenger, William Garrette Alderman, exit the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted and a small amount of marijuana was located. Further investigation led to Hexamer being cited for improper equipment and the arrest of Alderman for possession of marijuana less than one ounce. Alderman was transported to the jail, interviewed, and turned over to the jailor on duty. This case is closed.
On April 17, Officer Michael Maddox was dispatched to the corner of Dixie Lake Road and Ed Brown Street, in reference to a white female laying in the road attempting to get vehicles to stop. Upon arrival, Officer Maddox, made contact with April Charee Williams. While speaking with Williams, Officer Maddox noticed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath, her speech was slurred, and her eyes were bloodshot and glassy. Williams also had an opened alcoholic beverage in her possession. Williams became extremely argumentative. Williams was then placed under arrest. While walking to Office Maddox’s patrol car, Officer Maddox had to steady her to keep her from falling. Williams was then transported to the Charlton County jail where she was issued a citation for public drunkenness, that she would not sign. Williams was turned over to the jailor on duty. This case is cleared by arrest.
On April 17, Officer Gary Rhoden, observed a black 2008 Saturn Aura traveling south on GA Highway 4 with a driver’s taillight out. Office Rhoden conducted a traffic stop on the Saturn and met Gregory Linton Troutman. Officer Rhoden smelled a strong odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed marijuana being found. Troutman was placed under arrested and transported to the jail where he was interviewed and turned over to the jailor on duty. Troutman was charged with VGCSA less than one ounce and driving unsafe/improperly equipped vehicle.
