The Folkston Police Department recently released the following incident reports for August 9 to August 26.

On August 9, at 3:30 a.m., Officer Wyatt Garvin observed a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer failing to maintain its lane of travel on Martin L. King, Jr. Drive. Officer Garvin conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle driven by Andre Lemar Hairston. While speaking with Mr. Hairston, Officer Garvin observed indicators of alcohol impairment. Hairston participated in a portable breath test and he registered at .156. Hairston was placed under arrest for DUI, read implied consent, and transported to the jail.  Hairston refused to participate in the state administered breath test.  A search warrant was obtained for his blood.  EMS Squad One performed the blood draw at 5:30 a.m. the same morning.  Hairston was issued citations for DUI-refusal and failure to maintain lane.  He was turned over to the jailor on duty. This case is closed.

Also on August 9, at 11:20 p.m., Officer Wyatt Garvin conducted a traffic stop on a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria for driving under the railroad arms at the railroad crossing located on Martin Street, while the arms were flashing red in motion for an incoming train. He met the driver, Kawaun Latreze Donley, who admitted his driver’s license was suspended.  After checking GCIC and his criminal history, it was determined this incident was his fourth time being arrested for driving while his license was suspended/revoked, within a five year period.  Mr. Donley was placed under arrest, transported to the jail on the charges of licensed driving while license suspended/revoked and fail to stop at railroad crossing. He was interviewed and turned over to the jailor on duty.  Warrants were secured in this matter.  This case is closed.

August 16, at 5:40 p.m., Officer Jason Rifenbark conducted a traffic stop on a 2013 Nissan Sentra for speeding at 72 mph in a 55 mph zone at GA Hwy. 4, northbound, at the old scales. He made contact with the offender, Chaina Michelle Cruz, who was unable to provide any type of identification.  A check of her name and date of birth through GCIC returned the driver’s information was not found in GCIC.  Officer Rifenbark asked what state Cruz had her driver’s license and she advised it was in Georgia. After a second check through GCIC, it was revealed there was no driver information. Cruz advised she did not have any driver’s license and was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle was secured on the side of GA Hwy. 4 at the Sheriff’s Office. Cruz was issued citations for licensed driving while unlicensed or expired and speeding. She was turned over to the jailor on duty.  This case is closed.

August 18, at 4:50 p.m., Officer Gary Rhoden was dispatched to Circle K in reference to a wreck. Officer Rhoden checked the offender’s, John Martin Carroll, information through GCIC and it was revealed his license was suspended through Florida on July 29, 2020 for failure to pay traffic fines.  Carroll was placed under arrest, transported to the jail, charged with licensed driving while license suspended/revoked and improper backing, and turned over to the jailor on duty.

August 21, at 11:19 p.m., Officer Wyatt Garvin was dispatched to the Extended Stay in reference to a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, Officer Garvin met the offender, Michael Charles Grubbs, and his wife, Melissa Jean Grubbs, who were still actively arguing. After separating the two, he ran their information through GCIC, which revealed that Mr. Grubbs had an active warrant out of Nassau County, Florida for failure to appear for driving while license was suspended/revoked. On February 23, 2020 Nassau County placed a hold on Mr. Grubbs, who was placed under arrest for being a fugitive from justice. Mr. Grubbs was transported to the jail and turned over to the jailor on duty.   A warrant was secured in this matter.

August 23, at 3:53 a.m., Officer Wyatt Garvin conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado for speeding. Upon approaching the driver, Scott Lee Joplin, Officer Garvin could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from Joplin’s person. When asked if he consumed any alcohol, Mr. Joplin admitted he had. Officer Garvin’s investigation led to Mr. Joplin being placed under arrest for the charges of DUI-alcohol less safe and speeding.  Mr. Joplin was transported to the jail where he was administered the state breath test.  He was issued citations and turned over to the jailor on duty.

   August 24, 11:45 p.m. Office Wyatt Garvin conducted a traffic stop on a 2016 Fiat 500X for speeding.  While speaking to the offender, R’kia Denise Rhodes, he observed marijuana in plain view.  Further investigation led to Ms. Rhodes being placed under arrest for the charges of VGCSA less than one ounce (marijuana) and speeding.  She was transported to the jail, issued citations, interviewed, and turned over to the jailor on duty.  This case is closed.

   August 26, 5:40 a.m. Officer Daniel Lightsey observed a 2002 Suzuki motorcycle traveling north on GA Hwy. 4 following too close behind a tan sports utility vehicle.  He conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and a check of the driver, Robert Alvah McGee, information through GCIC revealed that his license was suspended on March 20, 2019 for a super speeder violation.  Mr. McGee was taken in to custody and charged with license driving while license suspended/revoked and following too closely.  He was transported to the jail, where he was issued citations and turned over to the jailor on duty.  This case is closed.
