The Folkston City Council held its first meeting of 2020, Monday, January 13.

Before the meeting, council members Pardner Davis, Stanley Golazewski, and Rob Roberson were reinstated and sworn in for the new year.

During the meeting, the council heard from Police Chief Wesley Green, who stated the officers responded to 1,010 calls, investigated seven accidents, and filed 28 incident reports. The department collected $9,580.00 in fees, with the city’s portion being $6,582.97.

City Manager Pender Lloyd alerted the council the city has received the check for the Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) Grant, issued for approximately $58,000.00. The grant is to resurface a portion of Third Street, beginning at Bay Street going south to Eunice Street. Lloyd also stated the well pump, previously out of commission, is now operating again.

Also during the meeting, the city council members moved to adopt the new Water and Waste Water Ordinance. Updates were made in order to meet the requirements set for  the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Finally, the Liquor License for Thai Smile was approved unanimously. The application was required to be tabled for 30 days. The requirements were met, and the motion was approved unanimously.
