Cycling for a Cause: Donoho makes pit stop in Folkston

Flynn Donoho, 61, travels by bicycle from state to state raising funds for the American Cancer Society. His most recent stop – Folkston. He first embarked on this journey January 6, 2009, and says he has visited 48 of the 50 states with his dog, Diva.

“Diva is the best companion ever,” he said.

Donoho’s adventure began in Huntington, California. His life has been greatly impacted by cancer, so he rides in honor of his sister-in-law, Melinda, an eight-year survivor of breast cancer and his little brother, a one-year survivor of prostate cancer. He travels in memory of his late step-sister, who passed from breast cancer and a friend who also passed from cancer.

Flynn and Diva have traveled over 50,000 miles, facing F-4 tornadoes in Oklahoma, hurricanes, hail, and more. Next on his agenda is a trip to Florida, where he hopes to spend some time in warmer weather.

“Please don’t hit me when you see me on the road,” he joked.

Those wishing to donate to Donoho’s cause can find his campaign, “Cycling for Cancer,” at crowdrise.com or donate to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org.
