Christmas has come early to Charlton County! Come out to Christmas on Main Street this Saturday in downtown Folkston to experience a day filled with mirth, music, delicious food and Santa himself.

Market in the Park

The event starts off with Market in the Park from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Vendors will sell Christmas-specific items or goods that could be given as gifts. Also, be sure to check out the local stores while out and about. Dana O’Quinn, Okefenokee Chamber of Commerce executive director, mentioned all downtown stores will be participating throughout the day whether running sales or holiday-themed specials.

For every $150 spent at either a park vendor or Chamber business members (including restaurants), O’Quinn said the spender will be entered into a drawing for two tickets for Jacksonville’s Trans-Siberian Orchestra on December 16. She said the value of the tickets is over $150. Just submit a receipt/s to earn the chance to listen to the orchestra’s spin on Christmas classics.

There will also be face painting, a toy soldier stilt walker, a model train on the Depot’s porch and Santa Claus who will be located at the Train Museum. Santa will be available for visits and pictures. Children will also be able to write a letter to Santa and mail it in the “official” North Pole mailbox on the Depot grounds.

Food trucks will be located on Depot Street with food such as churros, pizza, kettlecorn and seafood.

There will be an “Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest” at 5:30 p.m. Contestants will gather at the Depot and a winner will be announced at 5:45 p.m. right before the parade. So, make sure to bring your ugliest and warmest sweater in order to make Christmas on Main Street history.

Light It Up Parade

Are you ready to see the night lit up with lights of all kinds? Well, get ready for the second annual Christmas parade.

The Light It Up Parade is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., but it could be moved to a later time due to the SCC Championship football game - O’Quinn wants to make sure everyone has the opportunity to particpate in the parade. Similar to last year, it will include Santa Claus and vehicles like side-by-sides and golf carts.

To participate, submit an application to the Okefenokee Chamber of Commerce. The application deadline is today on Wednesday, December 1. Participants must be wearing lights of some kind.
