The Charlton County High School (CCHS) FFA Forestry Team placed third in the Appling County Forestry Field Day. Nolan Crawford was first and Travis Ray was second in Ocular Estimation. Savannah Pollock was third in Tree Identification. They also received a first place plaque from Wayne County FFD last week.
CCHS FFA and the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge (ONWR) hosted the Eighth Annual Forestry Field Day Thursday, March 28 with events conducted by the South Region Agricultural Education Office of the Georgia Department of Education and the Georgia Forestry Commission. ONWR, the Georgia DNR, and volunteers helped to entertain over 350 students from 18 schools as they competed in forestry events and enjoyed hikes, tours, fishing, archery, and learning about the ecology, history and wildlife of the Okefenokee.
CCHS alum Alex Chism and his Ware County High School Team won the senior event and Shelby Corbett and Echols County Middle School won the junior event.
