Charlton County has seen quite a spike in positive COVID-19 cases recently. According to the Department of Public Health website, Charlton currently shows 425 cases for the area (as of press time). There have been approximately 155 confirmed cases in Charlton alone in the last two weeks.
According to the Gwinnett Daily Post, Charlton County is one of the “hot spots” for the virus, stating, “Physicians in the area say much of the spread is due to people’s not following safety protocols.
Dr. Earl Martin, a family medicine physician who practices in Folkston, the seat of Charlton, as well as in Waycross and Kingsland, said that earlier in the pandemic, people were following social distancing guidelines.”
In order to help “flatten the curve”, citizens are urged to practice social distancing, to be conscience of sanitation and personal hygiene, and to wear a mask in public.
